Types of scholarships for boarding schools
This article has a list of the different types of scholarships that US boarding school students can get. We’ll make a list of them, which will be the basis for this talk.
a. Merit-based scholarships
This scholarship is for students at boarding schools in the United States who have done very well in school. Most of the time, the school gives them out, so students don’t have to ask for them.

There are a few boarding schools in the United States that give full scholarships to students. They are called Cheshire Academy, Phillips Exeter Academy, and Fenn School. Westchester Country Day School, but it is not a school where students live on campus.

1. Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship
The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for students in high school who want to fully immerse themselves in German culture and language.

The young professional scholarship is for high school students in the United States between the ages of 18 and 24 who are already working in their field.

3. Halsey Fund Scholar
In 2011, the Halsey Fund was set up to honor Woodruff W. Halsey II. This boarding school scholarship is given every year to high school students who are very smart, have financial needs, and have a strong interest in studying around the world.
The student also needs to learn about cultural differences and improve their language skills.
People who get this scholarship and grant pay nothing for college. SYA will also pay for the cost of a round-trip flight to the SYA school where the student is enrolled.
4. Imagine America Foundation
Since 1982, the Imagine America Foundation (IAF) has been running. IAF offers scholarships, awards, information about financial aid, research on the sector, and training for faculty. It tells the general public about the benefits of career colleges.

6. Washington Scholarship Fund
The Washington scholarship fund helps high school students from boarding schools and day schools in Washington pay for college.
In the same way, it gives scholarships to high school students who have lived in Washington Depot, Marbledale, or New Preston, Connecticut, for at least two years.
This scholarship and grant for boarding schools in the US are mostly for high school seniors who want to pay for college.
7. Independent Scholarship Fund
As a student at a boarding school in the Bay Area of the United States. You can get up to $1,500 toward your college costs.
Independent Scholarship Fund (ISF) gives scholarships to East Bay students in grades K–12 based on their needs and how well they do in school. How much they get depends on how much they need. If you want to, you can use this scholarship to go to a private boarding school.
8. Latino student fund
Latino students in Washington can get this scholarship and fund to help pay for boarding school.
It seems that even Latino students in kindergarten in the US can take advantage of this chance to get money. Its main goal is to help underserved PreK–12 Hispanic students get an education.
9. Bisons children scholarship fund
This is a chance for students in Western New York to get money through a scholarship.
With this scholarship, kids in K–12 can go to private schools. The kindergarteners get an average of $1,445 each as a prize.
The K–8 scholarship is the most important one in the country. It does help families through all nine years of high school, though.
Last, the scholarships for high school are only for current BISON 8th graders. The winners are chosen by lottery, and they can use their $3,500 award at any of the private high schools in the area.
10. Daniel Murphy scholarship fund
This is one of Chicago’s biggest boarding school scholarships for troubled youth. Daniel Murphy scholarship fund helps high school students from low-income families in Chicago get scholarships and other educational help.
It gives them the best chance of doing well in high school and college. This scholarship and grant will be given to students who live in Chicago. People who live in nearby towns are not eligible.
Those in 7th and 8th grade are the best candidates for this. Most of the time, it is a full scholarship to a boarding school that is given.
11. Tri-County scholarship fund
High school students in New Jersey can get money from the Tri-county Scholarship Fund. Students in grades K–12 get money to help them get a safe, good, value-based education.
This $4,000 scholarship is for high school students who are going into grades 9 through 12. This is a partial full-tuition scholarship.
Tri also has a scholarship for students in grades K-8 and high school called the Freedom Scholarship.
This scholarship gives $5,000 to high school students who have financial needs and do well in school.
12. School choice scholarship
This boarding school scholarships for troubled youth is for students whose families don’t have a lot of money. They can go to a private boarding school of their choice thanks to the scholarship.
It is mostly a scholarship and grant for students from low-income families who want to go to boarding school.
It’s only open to students from Louisville. Most of the families that take part in this scholarship scheme get full scholarships for their children to go to boarding school.
13. Shepherd Foundation
This boarding school scholarship for troubled youth is based on a person’s faith. It is available in Washington to low-income families and students who want to go to a Catholic school for elementary and high school.
Most Catholic schools are private boarding schools. Their member schools are many, for both high schools and grade schools. The counties where these schools are located are Washington, Montgomery, and Prince George’s. This is a full scholarship for boarding school.
14. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program is one of the most well-known ways to pay for boarding school. This program gives scholarships to high-achieving students who are struggling financially.
The scholarships pay for tuition, room and board, and other costs. The goal of the program is to help students do well in school and their personal lives. To do this, it offers a variety of support services and resources.
15. Horace Mann Bond Fund for African American children
The Horace Mann Bond Fund for African American Children is another boarding school scholarships for troubled youth programs that gives money to help kids go to boarding school.
This scholarship helps African American students who want to go to boarding schools get the money they need. The scholarship pays for tuition, room and board, and other costs. It is meant to help students learn the skills and knowledge they need to do well in college and beyond.

- Boarding schools give merit-based scholarships to students who do well in school. So, you need good grades to be eligible for the merit-based boarding school scholarship. Usually, this scholarship is given out on its own.
- Students who need money are another group who can get boarding school scholarships. If you can’t show that you need money, this is not for you.
- Students who have done well in extracurricular activities like arts, sports, or even science can get money to go to boarding school for free.
- Lastly, students who want to apply for external scholarships for boarding school students in the US must either be students at a boarding school or have applied to one.
Once you’ve found a scholarship you want to apply for, either online or through your school, the next step is to fill out an application. Most of the time, what you need to do is;
- Fill out the form and send it in.
- Include your academic transcripts. This shows how you did in school.
- If you need money, show proof that you need it.
- Give more credentials and send them in.
